THE FACTS BEHIND THE TEST
PTE Academic is Pearson's computer-based English test for study, migration and work abroad, accepted by more than 4,000 universities and colleges and by the Australian and New Zealand immigration authorities. It is a single two-hour test at a Pearson test centre with AI scoring and results typically within 48 hours.
A single computer-based test at a test centre; PTE Academic cannot be taken at home
No pass mark; institutions set their own requirement
Dates and fees can change. Later source checks are dated beside the relevant fact; other facts retain the baseline review date. Confirm current details on the linked official page. Myndaq is not affiliated with the exam body.
It is a single two-hour computer-based test at an authorised Pearson test centre: Speaking & Writing 76 to 84 minutes, Reading 23 to 30 and Listening 31 to 39. Pearson states that PTE Academic cannot be taken at home, so plan for a centre appointment and its ID rules.
Every response is marked by Pearson's AI scoring system and some responses are also reviewed by a human expert before the score is finalised. You receive an overall score from 10 to 90 on the Global Scale of English, communicative-skill scores and a Skills Profile. There is no pass mark; each university or visa authority sets its own requirement.
Pearson's July 2025 concordance puts PTE Academic 63 level with IELTS 7.0, 55 with 6.5, 71 with 7.5 and 79 with 8.0, as minimum thresholds for each band. The table shows how the tests compare, not what any institution accepts, so read the receiving organisation's requirement for the test you actually sit.
Typically within 48 hours. Pearson says most test takers receive results within two business days and, in some cases, within up to five business days. Scores are released in your Pearson account and sent to institutions you choose from there.
Two years from the test date, after which it expires and can no longer be sent to institutions. Some visa authorities apply their own validity rules, so confirm with the authority handling your application before relying on an older score.
Twenty-two across the three parts: nine in Speaking & Writing, five in Reading and eight in Listening. Because scoring is task-specific, practising each type against its scoring criteria matters more than general English study, especially for the integrated tasks that score two skills at once.
Yes, one free attempt per account and no card. The mock runs the three parts as timed sections on a server-controlled clock, with Speaking and Writing scored by AI as estimates; the mock page states the exact question count and timing, and the AI tutor explains every answer.
