YOUR PREPARATION PRIORITIES

Identify supports, load paths and the quantity requested. Draw the free-body diagram before choosing a structural relation.
Connect an equation to the conditions under which it applies. Keep stresses, drainage assumptions and material properties distinct.
Practise unit conversions, sign conventions and reasonable magnitudes. Use a quick physical check to catch an otherwise neat calculation.
INSIDE MYNDAQ
Read the explanation, ask the AI tutor for help and revisit the concept behind the mistake. Course counts below come from the live catalogue.
YOUR PRACTICE ROUTINE
Start with a small mix of structures, geotechnical and water-related questions. Draw each model clearly and note which physical assumption determines the solution.
Group problems by the relationship they use. Connect a structural response, a ground condition or a flow balance to the equation rather than memorising isolated expressions.
Complete timed mixed practice and review units, boundary conditions and load assumptions. Revisit a weak distinction using a new engineering situation.

For the second-order ODE d²y/dx² + 9y = 6 sin 3x, the form of the particular integral (using method of undetermined coefficients) is:
A singly reinforced rectangular RC beam of width 300 mm and effective depth 500 mm is made of M20 concrete and Fe 415 steel. The area of tension steel provided is 1500 mm^2. As per IS 456:2000, the depth of neutral axis xu (from extreme compression fibre) at ultimate limit state is approximately:
A solid circular shaft of diameter 50 mm is simultaneously subjected to a bending moment of 1.0 kN-m and a twisting moment of 1.5 kN-m. The equivalent twisting moment used in design (in kN-m) is closest to:
An open cylindrical tank of diameter 1.0 m and height 1.2 m is filled with water up to 0.9 m and rotated about its vertical axis. The maximum angular speed (in rad/s) at which water just begins to spill over is approximately (g = 9.81 m/s^2):
The Food-to-Microorganism (F/M) ratio in an activated sludge process is expressed as:

THE FACTS BEHIND THE TEST
GATE Civil Engineering (paper code CE) is the national engineering entrance test for M.Tech admission and PSU recruitment in India, open to anyone in the third year or later of an undergraduate degree or holding a government-approved degree. It is the paper for civil engineering and the route to infrastructure PSUs. IIT Madras organises GATE 2027.
GATE score valid for three years
The authority has extended scrutiny-defect rectification to 31 October 2026; paid candidate-request corrections are a separate process.
Dates and fees can change. Later source checks are dated beside the relevant fact; other facts retain the baseline review date. Confirm current details on the linked official page. Myndaq is not affiliated with the exam body.
A three-hour computer-based test of 65 questions for 100 marks: General Aptitude carries 15 marks and the Civil Engineering subject component 85 marks, in a mix of multiple-choice, multiple-select and numerical-answer questions worth one or two marks each. The pattern is common to every GATE paper; only the syllabus differs.
Only on multiple-choice questions: one-third of a mark is deducted for a wrong 1-mark MCQ and two-thirds for a wrong 2-mark MCQ. Multiple-select and numerical-answer questions carry no penalty, so never leave those blank. A GATE score remains valid for three years.
The official GATE 2027 CE syllabus PDF from IIT Madras lists 8 sections: Engineering Mathematics, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, Construction Materials and Management, plus General Aptitude. The 2027 notice says test-paper syllabi have been revised, so work from the official 2027 PDF rather than an older copy and use its topic list as your coverage checklist.
Anyone in the third year or later of any undergraduate degree, or who has completed a government-approved degree, may apply. There is no age limit and no cap on the number of attempts. A GATE score stays valid for three years, which matters for M.Tech admission and PSU recruitment timelines.
Registration is closed. IIT Madras has revised the application calendar, including a scrutiny-defect rectification deadline of 31 October 2026. Check the official important-dates page and your GOAPS account for the process that applies to you; do not confuse scrutiny defects with paid candidate-request data corrections.
