Alongside the overall score you get four core subscores and four integrated ones, each combining two skills. All eight use the same 10–160scale, so a university can ask for a minimum on any of them — several ask for a Production or Literacy floor as well as an overall score.

Duolingo publishes no minimum. Each university, employer or immigration authority sets its own, and it often differs between programmes at the same institution — so the only number that matters is the one on the page you are applying through. Every Duolingo English Test score is reported on a 10–160 scale, in 5-point increments. That applies to the overall score and to each subscore, so scores like 115 and 120 exist but 123 does not. If a number you have been given is not a multiple of 5, it is not a DET score.

It depends on the section. Reading and Listening responses are graded against a consistent set of structured rules, with correct or incorrect answers, partial credit or degrees of correctness, and no AI models involved. Speaking and Writing responses are scored using AI models trained on thousands of expert-rated samples, judging content, coherence, vocabulary, grammar, fluency and pronunciation.
This tool does not print a DET-to-IELTS number, because a conversion is only trustworthy when the publisher of one of the tests has published the table. Where such a table exists, our English test score converter reproduces it unchanged rather than deriving one. Treat any chart that maps every DET score to an exact IELTS band as an estimate, not an official equivalence.
