About the exam

The real DELE Spanish B2

The DELE (Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera) is the official Spanish-language certification issued by Spain's Ministry of Education on behalf of the Instituto Cervantes. The B2 level certifies an upper-intermediate command of Spanish: the ability to interact with fluency, understand the main ideas of complex texts, and produce clear, detailed writing on a wide range of subjects. The diploma is recognised worldwide by universities, employers and immigration authorities, and never expires.

What the real DELE Spanish B2 covers

All four DELE B2 papers in the official Cervantes formats: Comprensión de lectura (4 reading tasks, 70 min), Comprensión auditiva (5 listening tasks with audio played twice, 40 min), Expresión e interacción escritas (a formal letter and an opinion essay, 80 min), and Expresión e interacción orales (monologue, interaction and photo description, 20 min plus prep).

How people prepare for it

  1. 1Diagnose each of the four skills first, then prioritise the weaker group — you must reach 30/50 in BOTH G1 (Reading+Writing) and G2 (Listening+Speaking).
  2. 2Drill the four reading task shapes separately: 3-option multiple choice, text-person matching, fragment reinsertion and grammar/vocabulary cloze.
  3. 3Train listening with the two-plays rule and vary accents; task 4 (matching six speakers) rewards note-taking.
  4. 4Write timed 150-180 word letters and essays; focus on register (formal vs opinion), connectors and B2 accuracy.
  5. 5Rehearse the speaking monologue with the 20-minute prep constraint; structure arguments and be ready to defend them in conversation.

Figures above are as reported for the cycle named in each row and are refreshed each cycle. Sourced, dated facts for this exam (official links on every row) are on the DELE Spanish B2 course page.

  1. Question 1Comprensión de lectura – Tarea 1One correct answer

    Show answer and explanation

    Answer: B

The second paragraph says the council's technicians objected that "la estructura del edificio no soportaría el peso de la tierra húmeda", and that is why "el proyecto estuvo a punto de archivarse". The architect's lighter boxes solved exactly that problem, so B is correct.

A is wrong because money or the budget is never mentioned; the response was only "tibia" for technical reasons. C is wrong because it was the neighbours themselves ("un grupo de vecinos jubilados") who proposed using the rooftop.

  2. Question 2Comprensión de lectura – Tarea 1One correct answer

    Show answer and explanation

    Answer: C

The founders say that growing food "no es lo más importante", and Andrés Moliner adds "Lo que de verdad cultivamos son relaciones", pointing out that people who never greeted each other now meet there. So, for them, the most valuable result is the social bond: C.

A is a trap built on "ya": the association "ya estudia" a lottery, which means it is only considering one, not using it yet. B contradicts the text, which says the waiting list "supera los doscientos nombres" and never mentions any expansion or reduction.

  3. Question 3Comprensión de lectura – Tarea 2One correct answer

    1. Marta
    2. Julián
    3. Rocío
    Show answer and explanation

    Answer: A

Marta says that at first the hardest thing was that "todo el mundo opinaba sobre mi vida", but that "con el tiempo entendí que esa curiosidad es también una manera de estar pendiente de los demás". She reinterprets the villagers' nosiness as a form of care, so the answer is Marta.

Julián's early problem was technical (the internet connection), not people's attitude. Rocío is surprised by how well her bookshop does, which is about her business, not a change in how she judges her neighbours' behaviour.

  4. Question 4Comprensión de lectura – Tarea 2One correct answer

    1. Marta
    2. Julián
    3. Rocío
    Show answer and explanation

    Answer: C

Rocío says of her children "Ellos se adaptaron enseguida; yo, en cambio, tardé bastante más". The contrast marker "en cambio" makes the comparison explicit, so the answer is Rocío.

Marta mentions what was hard for her ("lo que más me costó") but never mentions children or compares herself with anyone. Julián talks about his connection problems and what he misses, not about a family.

  5. Question 5Comprensión de lectura – Tarea 3One correct answer

    Show answer and explanation

    Answer: B

The gap must do two things: contrast with the old view ("Durante mucho tiempo…") and introduce an idea that the next sentence can refer to with "Según esta idea". Fragment B does both: "Hoy, en cambio" signals the change, and "aburrirse de vez en cuando puede resultar beneficioso" is exactly the idea developed afterwards (boredom sparks imagination and self-organisation).

A contradicts the conclusion of the text, which advises against filling every minute of the child's schedule ("lejos de llenar cada minuto de su agenda"). C talks about screens and lack of free time; it introduces no idea about the value of boredom, so "Según esta idea" would have nothing to refer to.

  6. Question 6Comprensión de lectura – Tarea 4One correct answer

    Querida Elena:

    Show answer and explanation

    Answer: C

The sentence is an unreal condition about the past: "Si me hubieran dicho hace un año…" (pluperfect subjunctive). The result clause of such a sentence takes the conditional perfect: "no me lo habría creído" (I wouldn't have believed it), so C is correct.

"Haya creído" is a perfect subjunctive, which cannot stand alone as the main verb of the result clause. "Habré creído" is the future perfect, which expresses something that will have happened or a guess about the past, not a hypothetical result.

  7. Question 7Comprensión de lectura – Tarea 4One correct answer

    Querida Elena:

    1. volviera
    2. volvía
    3. vuelva
    Show answer and explanation

    Answer: A

"Pedir que" expresses a request, so the dependent verb must be in the subjunctive. Because the main verb "pidieron" is in the past and the return has already happened ("ese mismo día me ofrecieron el contrato"), the sequence of tenses requires the imperfect subjunctive: "Me pidieron que volviera". A is correct.

"Volvía" is indicative, which is not possible after a verb of request. "Vuelva" is present subjunctive; it would only fit if the request still pointed to a future moment from now, which is not the case in this finished story.

  8. Question 8Comprensión de lectura – Tarea 4One correct answer

    Querida Elena:

    1. Si
    2. En caso de que
    3. Por si
    Show answer and explanation

    Answer: B

The verb after the gap, "encuentre", is present subjunctive, and the sentence states a condition for a future result ("iré en bici"). "En caso de que" is a conditional connector that always takes the subjunctive, so "En caso de que encuentre algo cerca del puerto, iré en bici" is correct: B.

"Si" never takes the present subjunctive; with a real future condition it needs the present indicative ("Si encuentro algo…"). "Por si" means "just in case". It takes the indicative ("por si encuentro") or the imperfect subjunctive ("por si encontrara"), never the present subjunctive, and its meaning (a precaution) does not fit a condition followed by a result.
