How is SQE1 structured?

Two assessments, FLK1 and FLK2, each of 180 single-best-answer questions with five options and one correct answer. They are sat on separate days at a Pearson VUE test centre; each day is split into two sessions of 2 hours 33 minutes with 90 questions, separated by a 60-minute break during which you may leave the centre.

What does FLK1 cover and what does FLK2 cover?

FLK1: Business Law and Practice, Dispute Resolution, Contract, Tort, the Legal System of England and Wales with Constitutional, Administrative and EU Law, and Legal Services. FLK2: Property Law and Practice, Wills and the Administration of Estates, Solicitors Accounts, Land Law, Trusts, Criminal Liability and Criminal Law and Practice. Ethics runs through both.

What is the SQE1 pass mark?

Raw marks are converted to a scaled score out of 500 and 300 is the pass mark for each FLK. Because papers differ slightly in difficulty, the number of correct answers needed to reach 300 is set for each paper after standard setting, so a past raw percentage is not a guaranteed future cut-off.

How much does SQE1 cost?

For assessments from September 2026 the SQE1 fee is £2,006, made up of £1,003 for FLK1 and £1,003 for FLK2; SQE2 is £3,086. Assessments up to September 2026 were charged at £1,934 and £2,974. A resit of one FLK costs that FLK's fee.

When are the next SQE1 sittings?

January 2027: FLK1 on 11 to 15 January and FLK2 on 18 to 22 January, with the seat reservation form due by 24 September 2026. July 2027: FLK1 on 12 to 16 July and FLK2 on 19 to 23 July. Booking windows and results dates for both are published on the SQE site as they open.
