How the real ACT is scored

The real ACT
In the enhanced 2025 format the test is shorter and the Science section is optional. The three core sections - English, Math, and Reading - produce the 1-36 composite score, while optional Science and optional Writing are reported separately. Unlike the digital SAT, the ACT is not adaptive: every student sees the same questions, all multiple-choice except the optional essay.
What the real ACT covers
English tests grammar, usage, punctuation, sentence structure, and rhetoric across three reporting categories. Math covers number and quantity, algebra, functions, geometry, statistics and probability, essential skills, and modeling - all four-option multiple choice. Reading uses four passage types: Literary Narrative, Social Science, Humanities, and Natural Science. Optional Science presents data and experiments in three formats: Data Representation, Research Summaries, and Conflicting Viewpoints. Optional Writing is one argumentative essay.
How this mirrors the real format
- The paper structure is the real format: 4 sections in exam order, 171 questions in total.
- Timing is server-controlled for the full 2 hr 45 min -- closing the tab does not pause the clock, exactly like our paid mock series.
- Marking follows the published paper: the per-section marks shown in the paper map are the marks the scorer applies.
- Sections run strictly in order and a completed section cannot be reopened.
- Break windows fall where the paper schedules them, and each one is shown in the paper map.
- An on-screen calculator is provided in the sections where the exam allows one.
