The NEET (UG) syllabus is not set by the National Testing Agency, which runs the exam. It is notified by the National Medical Commission (NMC), through its Under Graduate Medical Education Board, and NTA's Information Bulletin points candidates to it. The current syllabus is the one NMC notified in December 2025 for NEET (UG)-2026 and the 2026–27 academic session. This page lists every unit in it, alongside the Myndaq NEET course. How the paper uses the syllabus
From NTA's 2026 Information Bulletin:
- 180 compulsory questions in 180 minutes.
- Physics 45 questions (180 marks), Chemistry 45 (180 marks), Biology — Botany and Zoology — 90 (360 marks). Total 720.
- Multiple choice, four options, one correct or best answer.
- +4 for a correct answer, −1 for an incorrect one, 0 if unanswered.

Broadly, units 1 to 8 are physical chemistry, 9 to 12 inorganic and 13 to 19 organic, with unit 20 on practical chemistry — a useful way to split revision, though the NMC list does not label them so.

Biology has half as many units as Physics or Chemistry but twice the questions, so each Biology unit carries more of the paper on average. NTA's syllabus FAQ also corrects a slip in Unit 2: where the syllabus says "of an insect (Frog)", it should be read as "of an insect and a frog".
Did the syllabus change?
For NEET (UG)-2026, NTA's Bulletin answers this directly in its syllabus FAQ: there is no change in the syllabus with respect to the previous year. Coaching lists do not always match the current notification; the NMC document for the current session is the only list to trust. Any change for the next session will be notified by NMC in the same way — check the NMC and NTA websites before relying on this list for a later exam.
What the syllabus does not tell you
- Marks per unit. Neither NMC nor NTA publishes a unit-wise weightage. Tables of "chapter-wise weightage" are compiled by coaching institutes from past papers and are estimates.
- The difficulty mix. The syllabus lists topics, not how deeply each will be tested.
- The exam's mode for future sessions. The 2026 exam was pen-and-paper (OMR); NTA had not issued any NEET (UG) notice for the next session when this page was checked.
How to use the unit list
Build your plan on the unit list, not on a textbook's chapter order. Tick each unit only when you can answer timed questions on it, and keep Biology's ten units in continuous revision — they are half your marks.
