IELTS is not sold by one central office at one price. You book through a test centre run by one of the partners, the centre sets its fee in local currency, and the detailed cancellation terms are also the centre's. This page sets out what the official listing shows for India today, which rules are the same everywhere, and which you must read on your own centre's booking page, alongside the Myndaq IELTS Academic course. What IELTS Academic costs in India
The ielts.org centre listing for IDP Education India's Mumbai centre shows these fees:
- IELTS Academic on computer — INR 19,000
- IELTS General Training on computer — INR 19,000
- IELTS UKVI Academic on computer — INR 19,250
- IELTS UKVI General Training on computer — INR 19,250
Three things to read into that list, and one thing not to:
- The UKVI version costs INR 250 more. It is a separately booked product. Whether you need it depends on your UK visa route, which is set by the UK Home Office, not by IELTS — check the route before paying the higher fee, and do not book it for a university that only asks for IELTS Academic.
- Academic and General Training cost the same. Choosing the module is a question of what your university or registering body asks for, never of price.
- The listing shows computer-delivered tests only. It carries no paper-based fee. If you want a paper test, or a test at another city or with another partner, read that centre's own listing — do not assume the figure is identical.
- Do not treat this as a national price. It is one centre's listing on the official site. It is the most reliable figure available on an official page, but the fee you pay is the one shown in your centre's booking flow.
How booking works
- Pick the test. IELTS Academic or General Training, and the standard or UKVI version, according to what the receiving organisation names.
- Pick the delivery. At a test centre, or remotely through IELTS Online, which the owners offer for the Academic module.
- Pick a centre and date through the partner's booking system, and pay the fee the booking flow shows.
- Read the centre's terms before paying — the cancellation cut-off and deduction are in them, not on the central site.
Speaking may be scheduled on the same day as the other three sections or within seven days of them, so hold both dates free when you book.
Cancelling a test
You can cancel your registration at any time before you take the test by notifying your test centre. How much you get back is not fixed centrally: the official policy says refunds depend on when you cancel and whether exceptional circumstances apply, and that detailed terms vary by test-centre location. Illness, injury or another exceptional event outside your control is treated differently from a change of plan.
The practical rule: before you pay, open your centre's terms and find the cut-off before which a cancellation is refunded and the deduction applied. That figure is the one that governs your booking.
Transferring to another date
You may change your test date at any time before the test, with two limits:
- The new date must fall within three months of your original test date, where a date is available.
- A late transfer can be treated as a cancellation, depending on how close to test day you ask. If you know you need to move, ask early.
Re-marks: Enquiry on Results
If a band surprises you, you can apply for an Enquiry on Results — a re-mark of one or more sections. There is a fee, and it is refunded in full if your band score changes. The result can come on the day you apply or up to 21 days later. Apply only where the band you need is within reach: a re-mark reviews how your existing answers were marked; it is not a second attempt.
One Skill Retake
If you took the full test on computer, you can re-sit any one section — Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking — through IELTS One Skill Retake:
- within 60 days of the full test;
- once per original test;
- you receive a new Test Report Form showing the retake score with the other three original scores.

Results and how long they count
There is no pass mark; each receiving organisation sets the band it wants. The owners recommend that results be treated as valid for two years from the test date, and universities and immigration bodies apply their own rules on top of that. If your application deadline is more than two years after the test you are planning, you are planning to sit it twice.
