The EE paper in the GATE frame
The paper itself follows the standard GATE frame: 65 questions, 100 marks, 3 hours, computer-based, with General Aptitude contributing 10 questions for 15 marks and the subject component 55 questions for 85 marks across MCQ, MSQ and NAT formats. Strategy that is specific to EE
EE spreads its 85 subject marks across ten sections - the widest spread among the core papers - but the paper has a centre of gravity: Machines, Power Systems and Power Electronics form a connected triad that also happens to be the content public-sector recruiters who use GATE scores care about most. Build Circuits and Engineering Maths first as the substrate, then run the triad as your main sequence, letting Signals, Control and Measurements slot into the gaps as bounded, drill-friendly subjects.
Machines deserves special respect: it is long, phasor-heavy, and the single most common source of EE mock-score variance. The countermeasure is standardisation - one phasor convention, one equivalent-circuit habit, applied identically from the first week - so exam questions become instances of a drilled procedure rather than fresh derivations.
