Enter the four levels from your CELPIP-General score report and get the CLB for each skill from IRCC's official table, your lowest skill, and how that compares with the Express Entry minimums. Free, no sign-up.
Use the level (0–12) printed for each component on your official score report, not a raw mark such as 33/38. CELPIP describes its raw-mark tables as approximate, so this page does not convert raw marks. NA on a report means “Not Administered: test taker did not receive this test component” (CELPIP); it has no level, so this page cannot check that component.
This chart combines IRCC's three CELPIP-General tables: Federal Skilled Worker (CLB 7 to 10 and above, 10+), Federal Skilled Trades (CLB 4 to 9 and above, 9+) and Canadian Experience Class (CLB 5 to 9 and above, 9+). Levels 4 to 9 match in every table that prints them; the 10+ row comes from the Federal Skilled Worker table. The same value applies in every skill.
| CLB level | Speaking (CELPIP) | Listening (CELPIP) | Reading (CELPIP) | Writing (CELPIP) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 and above | 10+ | 10+ | 10+ | 10+ |
| 9 | 9 | 9 | 9 | 9 |
| 8 | 8 | 8 | 8 | 8 |
| 7 | 7 | 7 | 7 | 7 |
| 6 | 6 | 6 | 6 | 6 |
| 5 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 5 |
| 4 | 4 | 4 | 4 | 4 |
Minimum CLB in each ability. For CELPIP-General, levels 4 to 9 are the same number as the CLB, and IRCC's Federal Skilled Worker table counts 10+ as CLB 10 and above.
| Programme | Speaking | Listening | Reading | Writing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Federal Skilled Worker Program (first official language) | CLB 7 | CLB 7 | CLB 7 | CLB 7 |
| Canadian Experience Class — NOC TEER 0 or 1 job | CLB 7 | CLB 7 | CLB 7 | CLB 7 |
| Canadian Experience Class — NOC TEER 2 or 3 job | CLB 5 | CLB 5 | CLB 5 | CLB 5 |
| Federal Skilled Trades Program | CLB 5 | CLB 5 | CLB 4 | CLB 4 |
First official language, maximum 24 points. A second official language earns 4 points in total at CLB 5 or above in all four abilities. These are not CRS points.
| CLB level | CELPIP-General level (each ability) | Points per ability |
|---|---|---|
| 7 | 7 | 4 |
| 8 | 8 | 5 |
| 9 | 9 | 6 |
| 10 and above | 10+ | 6 |
Use the level on your official score report for each component. In IRCC’s CELPIP-General tables, levels 4 to 9 equal the same CLB (CELPIP 7 is CLB 7). Only the Federal Skilled Worker table has a “10+” row, which counts as CLB 10 and above; the Federal Skilled Trades and Canadian Experience Class tables stop at “9 and above” (9+). Each skill is converted separately. No IRCC table goes below CLB 4, so levels 0–3 have no CLB there, and CELPIP’s own chart marks levels 0 and 1 “Insufficient information to assess”, with no CLB.
IRCC sets the minimum per ability. Federal Skilled Worker Program (first official language): CLB 7 in each ability, so CELPIP 7 in all four. Canadian Experience Class: CLB 7 for a NOC TEER 0 or 1 job, CLB 5 for TEER 2 or 3. Federal Skilled Trades Program: CLB 5 in Speaking and Listening and CLB 4 in Reading and Writing. IRCC says you must take the CELPIP-General test. Confirm the current rule on IRCC’s page before you apply.
For a first official language, IRCC’s Federal Skilled Worker table gives 4 points per ability at CLB 7, 5 at CLB 8, and 6 at CLB 9 or CLB 10 and above, up to 24 points. A second official language earns 4 points in total at CLB 5 or above in all four abilities. These are FSWP selection-grid points, not Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points.
Not on this page. CELPIP labels its Listening and Reading raw-score tables “Approximate Scores” because questions can differ in difficulty, so the raw score needed for a level may vary slightly from one test to another. IRCC’s tables list CELPIP-General levels, not raw marks, so enter the level from your official score report here, and treat raw practice marks as a progress check.
IRCC says your test results must be less than 2 years old when you complete your Express Entry profile and again when you submit your application for permanent residence.
