What the NCLEX-RN asks of you
The NCLEX-RN (National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses) is the licensure exam a nursing graduate must pass to practise as a Registered Nurse in the United States and Canada. Since April 2023 the exam includes Next Generation NCLEX (NGN) content: unfolding case studies and stand-alone items built on the NCSBN Clinical Judgment Measurement Model, scored with partial credit. All scenarios are original study material.
Practice is organised into the four major Client Needs categories of the NCSBN 2026 RN Test Plan: Safe and Effective Care Environment (Management of Care; Safety and Infection Control), Health Promotion and Maintenance, Psychosocial Integrity, and Physiological Integrity (Basic Care and Comfort; Pharmacological and Parenteral Therapies; Reduction of Risk Potential; Physiological Adaptation). Items are original single-best-answer MCQs, Select-All-That-Apply (SATA), and dosage/IV-flow-rate calculations, plus a Next Generation NCLEX chapter of unfolding case studies and stand-alone clinical-judgment items (SATA/matrix, dropdown-cloze, highlight-in-text). Category weightings follow the published test-plan percentage ranges.

How people prepare for it
- 1Diagnose across all eight Client Needs sub-categories first; the exam is weighted, so put the most time into Physiological Integrity (Pharmacological Therapies, Reduction of Risk, Physiological Adaptation) and Management of Care.
- 2Drill prioritisation and first/next-action questions until ABC, Maslow, and the nursing process are automatic - these decide most CAT items.
- 3Practise Select-All-That-Apply and dosage-calculation items deliberately; both are common and unforgiving of guessing.
- 4Work the NGN case studies as six-step clinical-judgment reasoning (recognise cues, analyse cues, prioritise hypotheses, generate solutions, take action, evaluate outcomes), not as isolated questions.

- This free mock follows the same paper shape, timing, marking scheme and navigation as our paid NCLEX-RN (Next Generation) mock series. It is scored automatically. It does not include tutor explanations, analysis dashboards or practice content.
- The real NCLEX-RN is computer-adaptive: it varies in length and is reported as Pass/Fail. This mock is a fixed-length paper that does not adapt and does not produce a Pass/Fail decision.
