The JEE (Main) syllabus is published by the National Testing Agency (NTA) as a separate document from the Information Bulletin; the Bulletin simply points candidates to it. The latest one, "Syllabus for JEE (Main) – 2026", covers Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.) in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, and Papers 2A and 2B for B.Arch. and B.Planning. This page lists every Paper 1 unit, alongside the Myndaq JEE Main course. The sub-topics under each unit are in NTA's document linked at the end.
How the paper uses the syllabus
From NTA's 2026 Information Bulletin, Paper 1 is a computer-based test of 3 hours:
- Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, 25 questions each — 75 questions, 300 marks.
- Each subject has two sections: Section A with 20 multiple-choice questions and Section B with 5 questions whose answer is a numerical value, entered as an integer — numerical answers are rounded off to the nearest integer.
- Marking in both sections: +4 for a correct answer, −1 for an incorrect one, 0 if unanswered. Negative marking applies to the numerical-value questions too.
- Two sessions a year; if you sit both, the better of your NTA scores is used for the merit list.

Broadly, units 1 to 8 are physical chemistry, 9 to 12 inorganic and 13 to 19 organic, with unit 20 on practical chemistry — a useful way to split revision, though NTA's list does not label them so.
Papers 2A and 2B
The same NTA document gives separate syllabi for Paper 2A (B.Arch.) — Mathematics, an Aptitude Test and a Drawing Test — and Paper 2B (B.Planning) — Mathematics, an Aptitude Test and a Planning section. Their Mathematics part follows the same unit list as Paper 1. Candidates for those papers should read their sections of the document directly.
What the syllabus does not tell you
- Marks per unit. NTA fixes marks per subject (100 each), not per unit. "Chapter-wise weightage" tables come from analyses of past papers and are estimates.
- Which units get the numerical-value questions. Any unit can appear in Section A or Section B.
- The next session's syllabus. NTA issues a syllabus document for each year; check it when the next Information Bulletin is published.
